A reconstruction of Shakespeare’s Globe not simply as a famous landmark, but as a building whose story survives through archaeology, contemporary evidence, geometry, contracts, and timber.
At its center stands the Globe of 1599, surrounded by details drawn from the evidence historians have used to understand the lost playhouse: the surviving De Witt view of the Swan Theatre, the archaeological footprint discovered at Bankside, the geometric ad quadratum method of setting out the structure, reused timbers from The Theatre in Shoreditch, and the 1600 Fortune Theatre contract that explicitly called upon the newly built Globe as its model.
The handwritten notes are not decorative invention. They are part of the story—small clues to how an Elizabethan playhouse was conceived, constructed, and ultimately rediscovered centuries later.
Created in the spirit of an architectural study, antiquarian print, and working historian’s notebook, the piece celebrates the physical world behind Shakespeare’s stage: timber, geometry, craftsmanship, London, and the extraordinary building that gave his plays a home.
